One of the movie posters I took inspiration from was this teaser for the...REVENGE OF THE JEDI? Yes, at this early date, they didn't have the title fully finalized. The one thing they are sure of is that slapping Darth Vader on everything=profit. And why not? Everything about him, the voice, the movements, the costume, was designed to be as intimidating as possible. The composition of this poster is also meant to enhance his stature and presence as a force to be reckoned with. His helmet dominates the frame, a malevolent red aura representing his anger and hate. The not-quite profile we see him in gives him an appearance of focusing on something outside our field of view, of being an active, masculine figure without any actual movement taking place. On his shoulder we get a vision of combat between him and his son, lightsaber colors reversed (?) as even this desperate battle for dominance is subsumed by his overwhelming presence.

The world will be changed by...our new president, I suppose. I'm not in a particularly great mood after last night, so my plan is to do a very dark, ominous type of poster in the vein of an intimidating, terrifying Hollywood villain. I selected three posters that I think do a good job of communicating a kind of dread of a mysterious, overwhelming malevolent force. They all employed different strategies to achieve this repulsive feeling, but there are few common elements I will definitely empulate. The object of dread itself, i.e. the main bad guy, always looms large in the frame, dwarfing the other elements like an evil gas giant, and is usually in a high spot, a sign of power. My plan is to place a giant fat Trump head over the white house, possibly put some of his more deplorable allies around him, Star Wars style, add some storm clouds behind his face, and play with the opacity until it looks suitably grotesque. Two of these posters also use a blood red color scheme very effectively, and I may play with a red layer as well. Or at least orange

This "Apocalypse Now" poster is truly unsettling. Marlon Brando is made to look grotesque, though his place in the frame below the hero gives mixed messages about his power and activity.

A classic villain poster! Darth Vader's overpowering force fills the entire frame, his malevolence a harsh red glow around him. The hero is dwarfed by him, fighting for his life against an unfeeling, inhuman omnipresent entity.

Another statement of the overwhelming power of the antagonistic force, this time focusing not on Darth Vader as a person, but the Empire as a whole. Large and intimidating as the two Sith Lords are, they do not fill the frame on their own. The true terror is in the innumerable legions at their command, spreading to all corners of the galaxy, even the so-called "Midwestern Firewall." Dammit!
