 The basic story I'm planning to tell is that of my grandparents transitioning to civilian jobs after WW2. My grandmother was a WAC

Chapter 6

Symmetry and Balance

Something I find striking about this Hamilton logo is the fact that it is almost entirely symmetrical and centered, leaving the white space flat and inactive...except for the silhouette of the titular Treasury Secretary. His dynamic pose suggests motion and energy, breaking up the monotony of the image the same way the character challenges the status quo in early American society.

In what remains of this Gigantomachy scene from the Great Alter of Zeus at Pergamon, the combination of vivid, dynamic poses with balance and symmetry (Nike and the Giant's wings, for example) creates a strange, mixed effect. What we are witnessing is obviously violent, and horrible for the individuals involved, but, as it is one of the stories that explains how the world came to be as it is, there is a justifiable necessity to it that lessens the emotional impact.

In theory, the balance and symmetry of this Captain America: Civil War poster should create a sense of peace, but the rows of Avengers instead create converging lines and rapidly depleting space, giving it an overall feel of barely maintained equilibrium, ready to burst into conflict.
